Rio Branco Celebrates New Year 2026 with Festivities

The capital of Acre, Rio Branco, celebrated the arrival of 2026 with a fireworks display lasting approximately 15 minutes and a full night of programming at Revolution Square. The event, organized by the city hall, featured local artist shows and a food court. While the venue did not become overcrowded, many residents attended, including Francisco Nunes da Silva and his family. Residents from rural areas, such as Marilda da Silva Pinto, walked to the city center to participate.

Attendees expressed various wishes for the new year, including health, work, and prosperity. Specific hopes included improvements to public transportation and road infrastructure. Some residents, like Jarleson Braga and his family, wore yellow clothing to attract good finances, adhering to local superstitions. In Cruzeiro do Sul, the celebration was headlined by singer Eduardo Costa.

He praised the decoration and the location, noting that they always visit the square for such events.

Others faced significant travel to attend the celebration. Marilda da Silva Pinto, a 38-year-old producer from the Ramal do Quixadá rural area, left her home around 4:00 PM with her teenage daughters. They walk to the city center every year. She mentioned that they had to walk because it rained during the day and that the Panorama area was isolated due to the bridge being covered.

Residents shared their expectations for the new year, expressing hopes for personal and community well-being. Maria Adélia Monteiro Neto, 58, anticipated a positive year, listing her wishes as "Health, work, prosperity. All good things."

Others focused on specific infrastructure needs for the capital. Luan Rodrigues, from the Calafate neighborhood, expressed a desire for better public transport. He stated, "The expectation for 2026 is that the buses improve, the locomotion."

Similar sentiments were shared by Aguinaldo Casoty, from the Recanto dos Buritis district, who hoped for the evolution of Rio Branco's infrastructure to facilitate daily life for residents. He specifically criticized the road conditions leading to bus stops, noting that while the center and main avenues are better, the areas where people walk to catch buses are full of potholes. He requested "at least more accessible transport for us, and also improve the streets, because there are no decent streets."

Traditional superstitions for the new year were also present. Warehouse manager Jarleson Braga, along with his wife Luzia Mesquita and their son, chose to wear yellow clothing to attract good finances in 2026. Braga described 2025 as "marvelous" and expressed hope that 2026 would be even more blessed. His wife added that they hoped for "Plenty of money!" regarding their choice of attire.

Meanwhile, in the city of Cruzeiro do Sul, the New Year's celebration was headlined by the sertanejo artist Eduardo Costa.
