Where Winds Meet Version 1.2 Update Release Date and Features

NetEase and developer Everstone Studio have detailed the content roadmap for the open-world action-RPG Where Winds Meet for January 2026. The centerpiece of the roadmap is the Version 1.2 update, which is set to release on January 9.

This update introduces a variety of new content, including new modes, campaign missions, quests, puzzles, and bosses. Key highlights include the conclusion of the Kaifeng campaign, a new competitive multiplayer mode, and limited-time events. The developers are encouraging guilds to prepare for the new competitive content, which will serve as a pre-season to gather feedback for future updates.

The development team has confirmed that the Version 1.2 update will be deployed on January 9. This release is part of a larger plan to provide updates every week throughout the month of January.

The update focuses heavily on narrative progression and exploration. The final chapter of the Kaifeng campaign will be available, offering players what the studio describes as "the most formidable challenge yet." Alongside the campaign conclusion, players can explore new locations and activities.

New areas being added include:

• Nine Mortal Ways Camp: A gathering place for sect members hidden beneath Kaifeng.
• Mistveil Prison: A mysterious puzzle cave for players to solve.
• Jianghu Martial Games: A limited-time event for players to partake in festivities.

The team provided specific details regarding the Nine Mortal Ways Camp, noting that it is "full of intriguing encounters, secret treasures, and bustling fun — but beware of the scams!"

A major component of the Version 1.2 update is the introduction of the Guild Battle Pre-Season. This mode brings "large-scale, coordinated multiplayer combat" to the game, allowing guilds to test their strategies.

The pre-season will consist of six "intense" matches. To ensure fair play and accessibility for a global player base, matches will be allocated to distinct Guild Regions based on country or region. Crucially, each Guild Region will launch matches "simultaneously according to its local time."

The development team explained the purpose of this pre-season phase: "This pre-season is crucial for us to gather player feedback and refine the core Guild Battle mechanics." The studio is actively encouraging all guilds to rally their members and prepare for the content planned in upcoming updates.

Where Winds Meet is a wuxia open-world action-adventure RPG set in ancient China. The game officially debuted on PC and PlayStation 5 on November 14. It achieved significant early success, topping 9 million players within just two weeks of launch. A mobile version of the game was subsequently released on December 12.

Regarding critical reception, the title has generated discussion regarding its scope and mechanics. The game attempts to incorporate a wide variety of elements into its design. In terms of player engagement, the game's AI-powered chatbot NPCs have been a point of interest. Players have found creative ways to interact with these systems, including novel approaches to solving riddles.
