Star Wars Racer Revenge PS4 Copies Selling for Hundreds

Physical copies of Star Wars Racer Revenge are suddenly selling for over $300 on eBay, driven by reports that the game contains an exploit used to jailbreak PlayStation 5 consoles. The prices have spiked dramatically in just a few days, turning a forgotten racing game into a hot commodity.

Originally launched for PlayStation 2 in 2002, the game was re-released for PlayStation 4 in 2019. Previously, these copies sold for around $20. However, news of the exploit has caused a rush to buy the physical discs, with prices climbing from $80 to over $360 in less than 48 hours.

Recent activity on the online marketplace eBay highlights the dramatic shift in the game's value. Listings for the PS4 re-release of Star Wars Racer Revenge show multiple copies selling for $300 or more within the last 24 hours, with prices continuing to climb.

On December 31, more than a dozen copies of the game were sold. Prices for these transactions ranged between $80 and $166. Just one day later, on January 1st, a further 11 copies were sold, but the average price had jumped significantly, ranging between $180 and $364.50.

As of now, dozens more copies have been listed for sale. Current asking prices are hovering around the $300 to $400 mark, with some listings going even higher. This represents a massive increase from the game's previous market value of approximately $20.

The driving force behind this sudden demand is a specific vulnerability within the game's code. Star Wars Racer Revenge is reportedly crucial to a new method of jailbreaking the PlayStation 5.

To utilize the exploit, the user must have the physical disc of the game inserted into the console. Successfully executing the jailbreak unlocks the ability to play pirated games on the PS5, bypassing the console's standard security measures.

While the exploit has generated significant interest, it is important to note that not every copy being sold is destined for this purpose. However, the potential use has undeniably driven the perceived value of the physical media upward.

Star Wars Racer Revenge originally launched for the PlayStation 2 in 2002. The PS4 re-release was handled by Limited Run Games, a company known for producing physical copies of digital games.

The print run for this re-release was believed to be limited to approximately 8,500 copies. Before the discovery of the exploit, these physical editions were considered a niche item for collectors, selling for modest prices on the secondary market.

The news of the price surge comes just weeks after the announcement of a brand-new Star Wars racing game. Star Wars: Galactic Racer, developed by former members of the Need for Speed and Burnout teams, was announced at The Game Awards 2025 and is scheduled for a 2026 release.
