Square Enix Issues Strict Spoiler Ban for Dragon Quest 7

Square Enix has made it clear that anyone willfully spoiling Dragon Quest VII Reimagined may be "temporarily or permanently banned." The publisher stressed that players must use spoiler tags for any content shared prior to the game's release. This includes images, videos, and livestreams of gameplay past a specific boss battle.

The company's usage policy applies to content from the demo, the original story, and new story elements in the remake. The strict guidelines are in place to protect the enjoyment of other players leading up to the launch. Violations of these rules can result in the suspension of game access.

Square Enix has outlined a comprehensive policy regarding the sharing of content for the upcoming release of Dragon Quest VII Reimagined. According to the company's usage policy, anyone sharing details of the plot must use spoiler tags. This requirement covers information from the demo, the original 26-year-old game, and new story elements found in the remake.

The publisher explicitly forbids the sharing of images, videos, or livestreams of gameplay that occurs after the boss battle in the Malign Shrine: Throne Room. This restriction is effective immediately and will remain in place until the official release date. The company stressed the importance of maintaining the element of surprise for the community.

The notice states: "In order not to spoil other players' enjoyment, you must mark all content that includes details of major plot developments with a clear spoiler warning." Furthermore, the publisher requested that users "refrain from livestreaming or posting videos/images of gameplay after the boss battle in the Malign Shrine: Throne Room until February 5 2026."

While the standard release date is set for February 5, 2026, the digital deluxe edition offers a distinct challenge for content creators. This edition provides players with two days of early access. Consequently, streamers and players possessing this version will be unable to share their experience from before the official release date without violating the spoiler policy.

Beyond spoiler restrictions, Square Enix mandates specific attribution for any shared images or videos. Copyright must be attributed to Armor Project, Bird Studio, and Square Enix. Failure to adhere to these rules may result in the temporary or permanent suspension of game access.

The guidelines grant Square Enix broad authority over user-generated content. The notice adds: "You must immediately comply with any request from Square Enix to remove Materials from any shared content, regardless of whether Square Enix provides a reason for the request." The company reserves the right to seek removal of any content it deems inappropriate.

Dragon Quest VII Reimagined is scheduled to launch on February 5 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. Announced during a September Nintendo Direct, the game features a new art style that blends diorama visuals with Akira Toriyama’s iconic character designs. It also includes a streamlined main story.

The remake allows players to rediscover a tale of companions brimming with joy and heartbreak. The narrative focuses on discovering the truth behind why the protagonist's kingdom is the only remaining island in the world. The game aims to introduce the best-selling Japanese entry to a wider global audience.
