LG Unveils 5K UltraGear Gaming Monitors with AI Upscaling

LG is preparing to debut three new flagship 5K UltraGear gaming monitors, including one with a true 5K resolution. The company has announced that during CES 2026 next month, it will show off the monitors, two of which are 39-inch and 52-inch 5K2K ultrawides, while the third is a 27-inch MiniLED flat panel display.

Because we are heading into the year 2026, there is a big AI component shared by the new 27-inch and 39-inch monitors: built-in AI upscaling. The company pitches this as a way to get higher-res graphics without upgrading your GPU. The lineup features the UltraGear GM9 (27GM950B), the 39-inch GX9 (39GX950B), and the UltraGear Evo 52-inch G9 (52G930B).

The UltraGear GM9 (27GM950B) is a 27-inch monitor featuring a standard 5K resolution, presumably 5,120 x 2,880. This pixel density is intended to provide sharper text and more detailed imagery, similar to the classic LG 5K UltraFine displays or the panels used in Retina iMacs. The display utilizes MiniLED technology, boasting 2,304 local dimming zones.

With a high peak brightness of 1,250 nits, the monitor promises near-OLED contrast and excellent HDR performance. It is designed for both office work and content consumption, featuring a 165Hz refresh rate at 5K resolution. Additionally, it can reach up to a 330Hz refresh rate when switched to QHD resolution.

The new 39-inch GX9 (39GX950B) serves as an upgraded version of the existing WQHD 39-inch model. The primary improvement is the resolution, moving to 5K2K (5120 x 2160). The physical curvature has also been deepened from 800R to a 1500R curve, offering a more immersive viewing experience.

Similar to the 27-inch model, this display includes built-in AI upscaling. It maintains versatile performance capabilities, reaching a 330Hz refresh rate at a wide FHD resolution and up to 165Hz at the native 5K2K resolution.

The UltraGear Evo 52-inch G9 (52G930B) is the largest display in the lineup. It features a 5K2K resolution similar to the 39-inch GX9, but it lacks the built-in AI upscaling found in the other two flagship models. The refresh rate is capped at 240Hz, and it utilizes a shallower 1000R curve.

According to the specifications revealed so far, this display does not use an OLED or MiniLED panel. LG describes the G9 as having the vertical viewing height of a standard 42-inch 16:9 display, stretched horizontally for a panoramic view. While there was initial confusion regarding the aspect ratio, the display appears to be a 21:9 ultrawide rather than a 4:3 format.

LG has not provided detailed information regarding port counts, VESA mount compatibility, or whether the monitors include built-in speakers. The company also did not reveal prices or specific release dates for the new UltraGear lineup. These details are expected to be clarified during the official unveiling at CES 2026 next month.
