Intruder Arrested at Kensington Palace

The security breach occurred at the Kensington Palace, the official London residence of the British royal family. The intruder managed to access the palace grounds on two separate days during the festive period.

• December 23, 2025

The suspect, Derek Egan, was apprehended by police during both attempts to enter the property. He has since been formally charged with two counts of trespassing.

Despite the proximity of the intruder to the royal residence, the occupants were not present during the breaches. Prince William (Guillermo de Inglaterra), Catherine, Princess of Wales (Kate Middleton), and their children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—were away from the palace at the time.

The family was reportedly spending the Christmas period at their country estate, Sandringham, or another private location, ensuring they were not at risk during the unauthorized entries.

This is not the first time security at the historic palace has been questioned. Kensington Palace has been the site of previous security incidents, raising concerns about the perimeter defenses of royal residences.

The fact that an individual could enter the grounds twice within a 48-hour window has sparked discussion regarding the effectiveness of current security protocols at the site.

Derek Egan is currently facing legal action following the arrests. He has been charged with two specific counts related to trespassing on the protected property.

The charges indicate that the intruder did not have permission to be on the grounds and violated security boundaries on both occasions.
