Duffer Brothers Rule Out Stranger Things Sequel

The Duffer Brothers have firmly ruled out the possibility of a sequel, describing such a project as a 'gross cash grab.' In a recent interview, Matt Duffer explained that the Season 5 finale serves as the definitive end for the characters' stories.

While a sequel is off the table, the brothers confirmed they are actively developing a live-action spinoff. This new series will feature a completely fresh mythology, new characters, and a new setting. While a sequel is ruled out, the Duffer brothers are currently working on a separate live-action Stranger Things spinoff. They described this upcoming project as a 'clean slate' that will explore a 'completely new mythology.' According to the creators, the new series will feature new characters, a new town, and a new world, with no common characters from the original show returning.

"The spinoff is going to delve into that and explain that, and you’re going to understand it," Matt Duffer said of the briefcase rock. "But it’s a completely different mythology. So it’s not a deep exploration of the Mind Flayer or anything like that. It’s very fresh and very new, but yes, it will answer some of the loose threads that are remaining."
