Dreame Cyber X Robot Vacuum Climbs Stairs with Terrifying Legs

Chinese appliance maker Dreame has introduced a robot vacuum prototype capable of climbing full-size stairs. Unveiled at CES 2026, the concept device uses a unique set of legs to navigate multi-story homes.

The Cyber X represents a significant step in autonomous cleaning technology. While previous models struggled with small obstacles, this prototype is designed to handle entire flights of steps. The device utilizes rubber treads and a braking system to maintain stability on stairs and floors.

Currently, the Cyber X is a research prototype. Dreame has not indicated if it plans to release this specific model to the public. However, the company has a history of showcasing innovative features at trade shows before releasing similar technologies in commercial products.

The Cyber X concept was first previewed at IFA in Berlin last year, but its appearance at CES 2026 highlights its advanced capabilities. The vacuum sports a set of legs with rubber treads that allow it to move autonomously across different floors.

According to Dreame, the Cyber X can climb stairs up to 25cm (9.8 inches) high. It is also capable of handling slopes up to 42 degrees. The device is designed to manage both straight and curved staircases.

The company claims the prototype can ascend a full flight of steps in approximately 27 seconds. This speed and height capability distinguish it from standard robot vacuums that typically only manage small threshold steps.

Beyond its climbing legs, the Cyber X incorporates several technologies to ensure effective cleaning and safety. The device features a laser-powered navigation system designed to help it maneuver up stairs and navigate around obstacles.

Key features of the prototype include:

• A built-in water tank to support mopping abilities.
• A specialized braking system to keep the device stable.
• Autonomous navigation for multi-story environments.

The braking system is particularly important for safety. It allows the Cyber X to remain stable on floors and stairs, even if the battery dies during a cleaning cycle. This prevents the device from falling or becoming a hazard when power is low.

For now, Dreame states that the Cyber X is strictly a research prototype. The company has not provided any timeline or indication regarding a wider market release of this specific stair-climbing technology.

However, Dreame has a track record of introducing innovative concepts at CES that eventually influence commercial products. Last year, the company displayed a prototype vacuum with a mechanical arm. This year, they announced a new vacuum with very similar abilities, suggesting a path from concept to production.

This history suggests that while the Cyber X may not hit shelves immediately, the underlying technology could appear in future flagship models. Consumers looking for advanced navigation features currently have other options from the manufacturer.

Alongside the conceptual Cyber X, Dreame announced the X60 Max Ultra. This is the company's latest flagship robot vacuum that is available for purchase, priced at $1,699.

The X60 Max Ultra focuses on navigating smaller obstacles rather than full staircases. It can roll over stairs and sills up to 8.8cm (about 3.4 inches) high. This represents a small improvement over the previous X50 model, which could clear heights of 6cm (about 2.4 inches).

While this height is insufficient for a standard full-size stair, which typically measures around 7 inches, it allows the X60 to navigate threshold steps and other small obstacles found in many homes. This makes it a practical option for users dealing with uneven flooring or raised door thresholds.
