Deus Ex Actor Calls Owners 'Psychopaths' Amid Game Delays

Elias Toufexis, the voice actor behind Adam Jensen, has criticized the leadership of the Deus Ex franchise. In a post on X, Toufexis referred to the people in charge as 'psychopaths' while confirming that no new game is currently in development.

The actor's comments were prompted by fan speculation regarding his 2026 work schedule. Alongside Bungie's upcoming shooter Marathon and three unannounced projects, fans hoped for a new sequel. Toufexis shut down these rumors immediately. The franchise has not seen a new entry since Deus Ex: Mankind Divided was released in 2016.

Despite the franchise's dormancy, Toufexis remains closely associated with the character of Adam Jensen. He expressed sadness over the cancellation of a reported new title in 2024, which resulted in layoffs at developer Eidos Montreal.

In a recent post on social media, Elias Toufexis laid out his work commitments for the coming year. He confirmed roles in Bungie's Marathon and three other projects that have not yet been announced.

When fans suggested that one of the unannounced projects might be a new Deus Ex sequel, Toufexis was quick to correct them. He explicitly stated that he is not working on the franchise due to the current management.

The actor wrote: "...no Deus Ex because the people in charge are psychopaths." This statement highlights the ongoing tension surrounding the series' future.

The Deus Ex series has been dormant for nearly a decade. The last major entry, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, was developed by Eidos Montreal and released in 2016 to positive reviews on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Following the release of Mankind Divided, Eidos Montreal shifted its focus to other properties. The studio worked on Square Enix's live-service title Marvel's Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy, while also providing support for the Tomb Raider franchise.

These projects took priority, leaving the Deus Ex IP on the sidelines. Fan interest was reignited when Square Enix sold Eidos Montreal and the franchise rights to the Embracer Group in 2022.

Despite the acquisition, the future of the series remains uncertain. It was reported that a new Deus Ex game was in development for two years under Embracer Group. However, this project was reportedly canceled in 2024.

The cancellation occurred amid widespread restructuring and layoffs at Embracer Group. Toufexis commented on the situation via a Reddit post, expressing his primary concern was the impact on the development team.

He noted: "Alas, his story seems done. I’m relatively certain the game that was canceled was not an Adam Jensen story, so the cancellation angers me more than anything else because friends at Eidos got laid off."

Currently, the only upcoming release for the franchise is Aspyr's Deus Ex Remastered. This polished port of the original game was delayed from its February 2026 launch window following fan feedback, and pre-orders have been refunded.

Although a new game is not currently in production, Elias Toufexis remains hopeful for the character's return. A year ago, reports indicated that Eidos Montreal pitched a new idea for the series, though there is no confirmation that this proposal was accepted.

Toufexis has previously discussed his history with the franchise, including his time working on Far Cry 3. He claimed he was replaced as the protagonist, Jason Brody, because his voice had become too recognizable from his role as Adam Jensen.

For now, fans of the stealth-action series must wait for further news regarding the remastered collection or potential future developments under Embracer Group.
