Quick Summary#

The partnership between Jorge Martín and Aprilia is back on track, presenting a united front for the 2026 MotoGP season. The team's recent presentation in Milan evoked a strong sense of déjà vu, mirroring the setup from the previous year.

Despite the familiar faces and shared ambitions, a significant change in the team's internal structure has emerged. Following a season derailed by severe injuries, Martín's position within the garage has evolved, setting the stage for a complex and challenging year ahead.

A Familiar Scene in Milan#

The atmosphere at the Sky studios in Milan was one of renewed commitment. Both Martín and Aprilia leadership signaled that the past tensions are behind them, with the primary focus now squarely on performance. The visual presentation of the team—same riders, same colors, same stated goal—was intentionally reminiscent of the previous season's launch.

However, this repetition of form belies a deeper, more nuanced reality. The peace pipe has been smoked, but the durability of this truce remains untested over a full championship campaign. Both parties understand that results, not rhetoric, will ultimately determine the longevity of this renewed partnership.

  • Team presentation held at Sky studios in Milan
  • Public display of unity after previous friction
  • Same rider lineup and core ambitions as 2025
  • Focus on competing against Ducati's dominance
"Me contrataron para ganar y es lo que voy a hacer."
— Jorge Martín, MotoGP Rider

The Shadow of 2025#

The previous season was nothing short of a nightmare for the Madrileño rider. A series of devastating injuries kept him out of the cockpit for the majority of the championship. The physical toll was compounded by the psychological frustration of watching from the sidelines.

His statistics for the year paint a grim picture of missed opportunities and physical pain. The 2025 campaign is a chapter Martín is desperate to close, yet its consequences continue to influence the team's current dynamics and strategic planning.

"Me contrataron para ganar y es lo que voy a hacer."

The rider's personal statement of intent underscores the immense pressure he feels to deliver results, a pressure amplified by his recent history.

A Shift in Hierarchy#

While the public message was one of solidarity, a significant detail emerged during the Milan presentation. Martín is no longer positioned as the undisputed number one rider within the Aprilia project. This subtle demotion is a direct consequence of his inability to compete consistently last year.

The team's internal structure has adjusted to reflect this reality. Martín enters the 2026 season not as the reigning favorite, but as a challenger seeking to reclaim his status. This shift places him in a unique psychological position, fighting not only against competitors but also for his standing within his own garage.

  • Loss of "number one" status within the team
  • Recovery from multiple surgeries and injuries
  • Only four Grand Prix races completed in 2025
  • Goal to return to full fitness and competitiveness

The Ducati Challenge#

Aprilia's ultimate objective remains unchanged: to disrupt the hegemony of Ducati in MotoGP. The Italian manufacturer was the only team capable of consistently challenging Ducati's machinery in the previous season. Martín is viewed as the critical component in this strategic offensive.

Despite not being at 100% physical capacity, Martín has expressed full confidence in the Aprilia project. He believes it is the only bike on the grid with the potential to unsettle the dominant force. His personal mission is to transform that potential into tangible victories.

"I was hired to win, and that is what I am going to do."

Looking Ahead#

The 2026 season presents a dual challenge for Jorge Martín: physical rehabilitation and competitive redemption. The foundation with Aprilia has been rebuilt, but the true test lies on the asphalt of the upcoming races.

As the championship approaches, all eyes will be on how this reconfigured partnership performs under pressure. The narrative is set: a rider seeking to erase a painful past and a team determined to close the gap to the front.

  • Season start will test the renewed partnership
  • Physical recovery remains an ongoing process
  • Aprilia's technical development is key to challenging Ducati
  • Martín's performance will define his future with the team

Frequently Asked Questions

Jorge Martín and Aprilia have officially reunited for the 2026 MotoGP season. The team presented a united front in Milan, confirming their continued partnership despite previous rumors of a split.

This partnership is crucial because Aprilia is considered the only manufacturer with the technical capability to challenge Ducati's dominance. Martín's return is pivotal to Aprilia's championship ambitions, though his role has changed following his injury-riddled 2025 season.

The 2025 season was a disaster for Martín, who suffered four severe injuries that required three surgeries. As a result, he only managed to compete in four Grand Prix races throughout the entire year.

A significant change is that Martín is no longer the undisputed number one rider within the Aprilia project. This shift in hierarchy is a direct result of his inability to compete consistently last season.

My favorite dietitian-approved spritz is just 4 ingredients — and it can be made with or without alcohol

Place cinnamon sticks inside the spritz for a festive touch. Rachel Hosie I make a four-ingredient, Aperol-based drink when I host, and it's a true crowd-pleaser. It's a lighter alternative to heavier cocktails, and you can easily make it nonalcoholic. It's also easy to upgrade with festive garnishes, such as rosemary sprigs and cinnamon sticks. For many, the Aperol spritz is reserved for daylight-saving time, falling into the same bucket as loose linen shirts and beach days. Once the clock falls back, the quintessential, three-ingredient summer cocktail — made with Aperol, Prosecco, and sparkling water — seems to go into hibernation. I, however, don't fall into that camp. The bright-orange, refreshing spritz is one of my year-round orders. I've found that with a couple of easy tweaks, an Aperol-based drink can actually be very versatile. My version of the classic recipe has become one of my favorite drinks in the fall and winter months, regardless of whether I'm on the sun-drenched Côte d'Azur or in my native drizzly England. Making the spritz is really easy — and it doesn't even need to contain alcohol I only need four ingredients to make this beverage. Rachel Hosie I've seen various versions of this cocktail online with slightly different ratios and ingredients. In my experience, you don't need to be too strict about it. You can alter the quantities based on your tastes and preferences, but for one simple spritz, I use the following: 2 ounces of Aperol or a nonalcoholic alternative 3 ounces of prosecco or nonalcoholic sparkling wine 2 ounces of apple or cranberry juice 1 ounce of soda water Pour the above ingredients into a glass with plenty of ice, and you're done. There's no shaking required. Although the above measurements yield one cocktail, I've scaled the recipe and served it in a large punch bowl or pitcher when hosting friends at my home. You can make it stronger by adding a splash of alcoholic spiced apple cider or go for a heavier Aperol pour. Just keep in mind that Aperol is a distilled spirit with 11% alcohol content, so even when it's diluted, it's worth being mindful of how many units you're having. To garnish the drink, you can use a sprig of rosemary, cinnamon sticks, dehydrated orange slices, or cranberries. One of my favorite touches is making big ice cubes with an apple slice or a star anise inside. And if you really love a sweet cocktail, coat the rim of your glass with a bit of cinnamon sugar. When enjoyed mindfully, this 'lighter' drink beats out heavier cocktails Whenever I host people at my home, I have the spritz cocktails ready to serve. Rachel Hosie I ran my recipe by dietitian Nichola Ludlam-Raine, who said that my festive spritz is a "lighter, more hydrating option" than many other popular holiday cocktails. As your glass empties, top up your drink with soda water, which Ludlam-Raine explains counteracts alcohol's diuretic effect and helps keep you from getting dehydrated. If you're not drinking at all, swap the Aperol for Crodini or Wilfred's aperitif and the prosecco for a nonalcoholic sparkling wine to create a tasty mocktail. "I would totally drink this myself and recommend it to my patients," Ludlam-Raine told me. "It's a great way of having a tasty drink without feeling like you're missing out if you're not having alcohol." Although Ludlam-Raine said that fruit juice adds flavor and antioxidants, you should be mindful of how much you use to keep your sugar intake in check. This is especially true if you're having multiple … which I always am because this drink is that delicious. Read the original article on Business Insider
