January Audio Savings#

While major shopping events like Black Friday and Cyber Monday have passed, January 2026 continues to offer compelling discounts on Apple's popular AirPods lineup. From the standard wireless earbuds to the premium over-ear models, savvy shoppers can still find significant savings across the entire range.

Whether you're looking for the latest noise-canceling technology, fitness tracking features, or simply a comfortable pair of earbuds for daily use, current deals make it an excellent time to upgrade your audio experience. Major retailers including Amazon, Walmart, and Best Buy have marked down prices on multiple models.

AirPods 4: Two Tiers of Value#

Introduced at the end of 2024, the AirPods 4 represent a significant upgrade over the third-generation models, featuring a more comfortable design and improved audio performance. Apple offers these wireless earbuds in two distinct variations: a standard model and a version with Active Noise Cancellation.

Both iterations benefit from Apple's Voice Isolation feature, which enhances call clarity by focusing the microphones on your voice, making them particularly effective in noisy environments. The standard model is currently available for $111.90 at Amazon and Walmart, representing an $18 discount from its $129 list price.

The AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation provide several Pro-level features at a more accessible price point. These include a surprisingly effective noise-canceling mode, a helpful transparency mode, wireless charging, and a case with a built-in speaker for easy tracking via the Find My app. They are currently priced at $148.99 at Amazon and Walmart, a solid $30 savings from their $179 MSRP.

  • Standard Model: $111.90 (Save $18)
  • ANC Model: $148.99 (Save $30)
  • Available at Amazon and Walmart

AirPods Pro 3: Advanced Features#

Apple's AirPods Pro 3, unveiled during the company's "Awe Dropping" event in September, bring a host of new capabilities. Beyond enhanced noise cancellation and superior sound quality, these earbuds introduce a built-in heart rate sensor that syncs directly with the iPhone Fitness app, allowing users to track their pulse and calories burned across more than 50 workout types.

Comfort and durability have also been improved. The Pro 3 feature a redesigned, angled fit and come with five ear tip sizes, including a new XXS option for a more secure seal. They carry a more robust IP57 rating and support Apple's new live translation feature, which conveys the gist of conversations effectively, though it cannot yet replace a human interpreter.

Despite their recent launch, these earbuds have seen frequent discounts. While prices dropped to as low as $199 in late 2025, current availability is limited to $239.95 at Amazon and Walmart, offering a modest $9 savings off the $249 list price.

AirPods Max: Premium Over-Ear#

For those who prefer over-ear headphones, the AirPods Max offer a luxurious listening experience. Constructed from aluminum, steel, and mesh fabric, they are designed for comfort during extended sessions. These headphones feature excellent noise cancellation, Apple's spatial audio, and expansive, balanced sound, though they may lag slightly behind competitors in bass response.

At the end of 2024, Apple updated the AirPods Max to include USB-C charging and new color options. While the sticker price is high, they remain a top choice for iPhone users seeking premium Bluetooth headphones. The current sale price of $449.99 at Amazon and Best Buy represents a $100 discount and is one of the better prices seen to date.

They're large and luxurious, comprised of aluminum, steel, and mesh fabric that remains comfortable during extended listening sessions.

Key Takeaways#

January 2026 presents a solid opportunity to purchase Apple's audio gear, with discounts available on nearly every model in the current lineup. While the deepest discounts from Black Friday have passed, the available savings still offer good value, particularly for the recently released AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 3.

Shoppers should note that availability is currently concentrated at specific retailers, with Amazon and Walmart offering the most consistent deals across the board. For those seeking the highest-end over-ear experience, the AirPods Max with USB-C charging are available at a significant markdown, making it a compelling time to invest in premium sound.

Amazon is buying copper harvested by bacteria for its data centers

Amazon's data centers will reportedly utilize copper from a mine in Arizona that's leaching metal from ores using microorganisms, the Wall Street Journal reports. Amazon Web Services will be the first customer for Nuton Technologies, which developed the "bioleaching" technology. AWS will also be providing "cloud-based data and analytics support," helping to optimize Nuton's mining process. Nuton's bioleaching method uses naturally-occurring microorganisms to extract copper from low-grade ore that would otherwise be too expensive to mine, while also using less water and producing less carbon emissions than traditional mining methods. Verizon says it'll credit customers $20 after its service outage lasted over 9 hours, but you have to claim it

Verizon was down for tens of thousands of customers for most of the day on January 14, 2026. Paul Squire/Business Insider Over 170,000 Verizon customers reported a service outage on Wednesday. The outages lasted more than 9 hours. Verizon said it will provide affected customers with a $20 account credit. Verizon is offering an account credit after a service outage affected tens of thousands of customers on Wednesday. A Verizon spokesperson told Business Insider that it "did not meet the standard of excellence our customers expect and that we expect of ourselves." Verizon said it would provide those affected with a $20 account credit redeemable through the myVerizon app. "This credit isn't meant to make up for what happened," Verizon said in its statement. "No credit really can. But it's a way of acknowledging our customers' time and showing that this matters to us." The company also said that if customers are still experiencing issues, they should restart their devices to reconnect to the network. Verizon customers began reporting issues just before 12 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, according to Downdetector, which provides real-time crowdsourced updates on services and websites. The tracker showed that reports peaked at over 175,000 around 12:40 p.m. Verizon shared its first statement about the outage around 1 p.m. Downdetector tracked Verizon customer reports on Wednesday, Downdetector Most of the reports came from East Coast cities like New York City and Atlanta, but there were also reports from places like Houston and San Francisco. Verizon told customers the outage had been resolved in an X post just before 10:30 p.m. — over 9 hours later. During the outage, New York City's Emergency Management office and Washington, D.C.'s public safety office issued alerts. Some of Verizon's rivals also used the outage as an opportunity to take some subtle jabs. "Our network? Solid. If you're experiencing issues, it's not us..... it's the other guys. Some things are just out of our hands!" AT&T said an X post on Wednesday. T-Mobile told customers that its network was working normally. "However due to Verizon's reported outage, our customers may not be able to reach someone with Verizon service at this time," the company said in its own X post. My favorite dietitian-approved spritz is just 4 ingredients — and it can be made with or without alcohol

My favorite dietitian-approved spritz is just 4 ingredients — and it can be made with or without alcohol

Place cinnamon sticks inside the spritz for a festive touch. Rachel Hosie I make a four-ingredient, Aperol-based drink when I host, and it's a true crowd-pleaser. It's a lighter alternative to heavier cocktails, and you can easily make it nonalcoholic. It's also easy to upgrade with festive garnishes, such as rosemary sprigs and cinnamon sticks. For many, the Aperol spritz is reserved for daylight-saving time, falling into the same bucket as loose linen shirts and beach days. Once the clock falls back, the quintessential, three-ingredient summer cocktail — made with Aperol, Prosecco, and sparkling water — seems to go into hibernation. I, however, don't fall into that camp. The bright-orange, refreshing spritz is one of my year-round orders. I've found that with a couple of easy tweaks, an Aperol-based drink can actually be very versatile. My version of the classic recipe has become one of my favorite drinks in the fall and winter months, regardless of whether I'm on the sun-drenched Côte d'Azur or in my native drizzly England. Making the spritz is really easy — and it doesn't even need to contain alcohol I only need four ingredients to make this beverage. Rachel Hosie I've seen various versions of this cocktail online with slightly different ratios and ingredients. In my experience, you don't need to be too strict about it. You can alter the quantities based on your tastes and preferences, but for one simple spritz, I use the following: 2 ounces of Aperol or a nonalcoholic alternative 3 ounces of prosecco or nonalcoholic sparkling wine 2 ounces of apple or cranberry juice 1 ounce of soda water Pour the above ingredients into a glass with plenty of ice, and you're done. There's no shaking required. Although the above measurements yield one cocktail, I've scaled the recipe and served it in a large punch bowl or pitcher when hosting friends at my home. You can make it stronger by adding a splash of alcoholic spiced apple cider or go for a heavier Aperol pour. Just keep in mind that Aperol is a distilled spirit with 11% alcohol content, so even when it's diluted, it's worth being mindful of how many units you're having. To garnish the drink, you can use a sprig of rosemary, cinnamon sticks, dehydrated orange slices, or cranberries. One of my favorite touches is making big ice cubes with an apple slice or a star anise inside. And if you really love a sweet cocktail, coat the rim of your glass with a bit of cinnamon sugar. When enjoyed mindfully, this 'lighter' drink beats out heavier cocktails Whenever I host people at my home, I have the spritz cocktails ready to serve. Rachel Hosie I ran my recipe by dietitian Nichola Ludlam-Raine, who said that my festive spritz is a "lighter, more hydrating option" than many other popular holiday cocktails. As your glass empties, top up your drink with soda water, which Ludlam-Raine explains counteracts alcohol's diuretic effect and helps keep you from getting dehydrated. If you're not drinking at all, swap the Aperol for Crodini or Wilfred's aperitif and the prosecco for a nonalcoholic sparkling wine to create a tasty mocktail. "I would totally drink this myself and recommend it to my patients," Ludlam-Raine told me. "It's a great way of having a tasty drink without feeling like you're missing out if you're not having alcohol." Although Ludlam-Raine said that fruit juice adds flavor and antioxidants, you should be mindful of how much you use to keep your sugar intake in check. This is especially true if you're having multiple … which I always am because this drink is that delicious. Read the original article on Business Insider
