Off-Duty Soldier Arrested for Domestic Violence in Bahia

A 40-year-old soldier serving with the Polícia Militar da Bahia was taken into custody on Sunday, January 11. The arrest occurred in Amélia Rodrigues, a municipality located approximately 30 kilometers from Feira de Santana.

Authorities were alerted to the situation shortly before 11:00 PM. According to reports, the incident took place inside the couple's residence in the São Bento neighborhood.

Upon arrival, police officers located the victim, a 35-year-old woman, standing in the middle of the street. She immediately reported that she had been assaulted by her partner, with whom she shares a common-law marriage.

The victim provided a detailed account of the events leading to the assault. She told authorities that the violence erupted shortly after the couple returned home from a day spent at the beach.

According to the woman, the soldier had been consuming alcohol throughout the day. She reported that he arrived home "altered" and agitated because he did not want to leave the beach.

The confrontation escalated quickly inside the home. The victim described a terrifying moment where she feared for her life.

"I thought I was going to die, because I was strangled from behind."

The soldier voluntarily presented himself to the police. He characterized the event not as an assault, but as a simple "desentendimento de casal" (couple's disagreement).

The violence was not hidden from the couple's children. The victim confirmed that their two daughters were present during the attack.

The children, aged 4 and 14 years old, were forced to witness the aggression against their mother. The presence of minors at the scene adds a significant layer of severity to the domestic disturbance case.

The victim required immediate medical intervention. Following the police intervention, she was transported to the local hospital in Amélia Rodrigues to receive treatment for her injuries.

Following the arrest, standard protocol was initiated regarding the soldier's status and equipment. The service weapon belonging to the soldier was immediately confiscated by the responding officers.

The suspect was formally presented at the Delegacia Territorial (DT) of Amélia Rodrigues. From there, the case was escalated to internal military oversight.

The soldier was subsequently transferred to the Corregedoria Geral da Polícia Militar. He is currently being held at the Centro de Custódia Provisória (CCP), where he remains at the disposal of the Justice system.

The Polícia Militar da Bahia released an official statement regarding the arrest. The department affirmed its strict policy regarding officer conduct.
