Maestro Dies in Electrical Accident During Home Installation

The Palotina Symphony Band community is in mourning following the tragic death of its conductor, Regimar Souza, age 39. The incident occurred during a routine home improvement project, turning a familiar domestic task into a fatal accident.

Souza was electrocuted while installing a power outlet in the ceiling of his residence in the Cohapar neighborhood. Emergency services responded immediately, but despite extensive resuscitation efforts, the maestro could not be saved.

The accident took place in the early evening of Monday, January 19, 2026, in Palotina, located in the western region of Paraná. Regimar Souza was working on an electrical installation in the ceiling of his home when he suffered the electric shock.

According to reports, the maestro was installing a power outlet in the kitchen area. His wife, Taisa Souza, stated that the household electricity had been turned off at the time of the installation. The couple had solar panels installed, and it remains unclear if these were involved in the incident.

"It was something he knew how to do, because he did the entire installation of the house himself. The power was off. I believe it was a discharge. We have solar panels and we don't know if that could be related."

When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found Souza in cardiorespiratory arrest on top of the ceiling structure. The rescue team utilized vertical rescue techniques to safely remove him from the elevated position.

Rescue operations were led by the Fire Department (Corpo de Bombeiros), who acted swiftly upon receiving the emergency call. The complexity of the situation required specialized technical skills to reach the victim.

Firefighter Eduardo Ortiz Novinski detailed the immediate actions taken by the team upon reaching the residence.

"We removed the victim and, immediately afterward, began the resuscitation procedures."

The medical team at the Hospital Municipal de Palotina continued the emergency care once Souza was transported there. Despite the aggressive life-saving measures performed both on-site and at the hospital, the injuries sustained were fatal.
