Ex-Formula 1 Driver Arrested in Texas After Kart Track Incident

Pizzonia was attending the Superkarts USA Winter Series at the Speedsportz Racing Park, where his 12-year-old son was participating. The former driver intervened in a dispute involving his son, resulting in Pizzonia striking another man. Following the incident, Pizzonia was detained and booked by Texas authorities but was released hours later.

Regarding the event, Pizzonia stated, "De fato houve um episódio do qual, hoje, eu teria reagido de forma diferente." He explained that he believed his son was being coerced by an adult and acted instinctively to defend him.

The altercation occurred during a competitive karting event involving the former driver's child. Antônio Pizzonia was present at the Speedsportz Racing Park to support his son, who was competing in the Superkarts USA Winter Series.

Antônio Pizzonia is a former racing driver from Manaus, Amazonas, who competed in Formula 1 during the early 2000s. Born on September 11, 1980, he began his F1 career in 2003 as a test driver for the Williams team.

Later in 2003, he was signed by Jaguar, where he raced until 2004. It was during his tenure with Jaguar that he earned the nickname "Jungle Boy." He competed in 11 races before being dismissed from the team. He later returned to Williams to substitute for Ralf Schumacher in four races.

Regarding his personal life, Pizzonia was married to Olympic long jump champion Maurren Maggi between 2003 and 2006, with whom he has a daughter. He is also the father of two other children and currently resides in the United States.
